New York City has more adult volleyball players per capita than any other US metro — and more sub-formats. Indoor 6s, sand 2s, sand 4s, grass 6s, and even beach doubles all thrive here.

Indoor 6s

Chelsea Piers hosts the highest-level indoor 6s leagues in the city. Expect ex-college players in AA and A divisions. Asphalt Green and John Jay HS host stronger recreational and intermediate leagues.

Sand 4s and 2s

Riis Park Beach Bazaar is the epicenter of NYC beach volleyball. Weekend tournaments run all summer across three skill tiers.

Grass 6s

Grass 6s runs at Central Park's Great Lawn and Prospect Park through Big City Volleyball and the New York Urban Professionals League. Great for beginners who want a social entry point.

What it costs

Indoor leagues run $90–$150 per player per 7–8 week season. Sand tournaments are usually $80–$150 per team per event.
